The Sherman County Historical Museum boasts of 16,000 square feet of space that houses its more than 15,000 artifacts related to Native American families, the Oregon Trail* migration, and the Sherman Community, which is composed of rural households, churches, schools, businesses, livestock production, dry-land wheat farming and conservation, military units as well as patriotic efforts.

The Museum is a non-profit institution that features interpretive exhibits of tools and equipment, wheat and* livestock production, homes, businesses, schools and churches on the Columbia Plateau, and hands-on experiences for everyone. It operates with massive support from its community with more than 70 residents in the county doing volunteer work at the Museum.*And this massive support has earned them recognitions such as the 1994 Corey Award for vigor, scholarship and imagination given by the American Association for State and Local History.

Some of the Museum?s exhibits include the Cultivation, Conservation, and Clothespins, which shows visitor the nature of horsepower, power, and electricity with large wheat *farming implements; and the Wheat Through the Ages, which features scientific research tools as well as the blacksmith and leather shops that were necessary for the farmer.
