The Shore Acres State Park was once the beach front estate of the Coos County timber baron, Louis Simpson. The property was then sold to the state of Oregon in 1942 after Simpson lost a lot of money due to a fire and other misfortunes. Currently, it is being handled by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Being an actually scenic venue, it attracts a good amount of visitors regularly.

What makes the Shore Acres State Park special is its magnificent gardens. Most of these areas date back to the time when the site was still owned by Simpson and a lot of the plants here are from different parts of the world. It is also well decorated around the Christmas season with beautiful and colorful lights.
