If you fancy a time away from the bustling city lights but not in the usual forest setting, being isolated in the midst of a snowy mountain could also be an appealing alternative. The Silcox Hut is a small mid-mountain lodge in Mount Hood, Oregon that could provide a great getaway for those seeking some peace and adventure at the same time.

The Silcox Hut is also a historic rustic building. It was built in 1939 by the Work Progress Administration and named after the fifth chief of the US Forest Service, Ferdinand Silcox. It was built for various purposes, including as a warming hut and starting point for climbers and as the upper terminal of the first Magic Mile chairlift.

Currently, the Silcox Hut is open for rentals.
