Within the Malheur National Forest lies the Strawberry Mountain Range, marked by the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. This area is composed of almost seventy thousand acres of mountain peaks, lakes, wooded areas, and hiking trails more than others.

Declared as a wilderness area in 1964, the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness is under the care of the US Forest Service. It is primarily notable for containing five life zones, out of the seven major ones in all of North America. It is also home to seven alpine lakes and numerous headwaters of various streams.

Rich in both flora and fauna, the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness can be explored by hiking is 100 miles worth of trails. Bird watching and camping are also permitted on the site.
