Located on the south side of Mount Hood is the Timberline Lodge, a mountain lodge. It was built in 1935 on an elevation of 5,960 feet. It can be accessed through the Mount Hood Scenic Byway. A popular tourist destination, the lodge welcomes more than a million visitors on a yearly basis.
The Timberline Lodge was actually started as a very daring project. It was worked on during the Depression Era, making its completion a proud moment for then president Franklin D. Roosevelt. It has also gone through some issues in the past, but managed to recover.
Skiing is a major activity at Timberline Lodge. It offers the longest skiing season in the country where both snowboarders and skiers can enjoy the snow year round.
