Eating at City Tavern should always be a part of any trip to Philadelphia. Aside from their award-winning food and service, the restaurant is also historic. The original site dates back to 1773 and was constructed for the purpose of giving the city ?convenience and credit?. This was the idea of a group of prominent Philadelphians who wanted to show off their city?s social standing. It was at that time that Philadelphia was considered as the biggest multinational city in British North America. An elegant 3-storey building, it was planned using the most up-to-date architectural design. However, the present Tavern is just an exact replica of the original building that was torn down to the ground. Today, you can enjoy 18th century ambience, food and even food attendants who will serve you in their costumes and will gladly tell a story about City Tavern?s colorful history.
