The Fabric Workshop and Museum was established in 1977 and is most famous for its Artist in Residence Program as well as its permanent exhibit featuring the spectacular works produced by its Workshop graduates. Besides the aforementioned offers, the museum also regularly hosts student apprenticeships as well as lectures and tours. Also known simply as the FWM, the museum is composed of 3 main exhibition galleries, a gift shop, and a video lounge. Its new extension wing, the New Temporary Contemporary, is located nearby at 1222 Arch Street. Those who wish to tour the fabric construction studios and printing workshops of the museum are encouraged to make arrangements in advance. Besides housing administrative offices for the management, the museum also has a state of the art video and photo lab, a dark room, a dye or pigment room, and an archives office.
