Aside from the usual memorable and celebrated histories of a place, some areas also put up memorials to certain tragic events. This is the case of the Lost Children of the Alleghenies Memorial in Blue Knob State Park.

The Lost Children of the Alleghenies Memorial looks back at the local history of the Blue Knob area, when the two Cox brothers, Joseph (7) and George (5), got lost and died in the woods back in 1856. The monument was erected in 1906, during the 50th anniversary of the tragic event.

The trip up to the area will require some hiking, so visitors who are interested in seeing the venue may need to prepare physically as well. It is also very ideal for folks who want to do some nature exploration on their vacation.
