Puerto Rico?s Fort San Cristobal is a portion of the San Juan National Historic Site. Completed in 1783 by the Spaniards, it was made to protect the area against land-based attacks. It is also known as the Castillo de San Cristobal.

Measuring a total of 27 acres, Fort San Cristobal is placed around the city of San Juan. Back then, the only entrance to the city was through the double gates of the fort, but in 1897, a portion of the fortification was demolished to ease the traffic flow.

Fort San Cristobal features a good number of historic parts of the Castillo, including the extensive tunnel system, artillery observation post, and the guerites. Aside from the scenery, the local stories and legends are also entertaining additions to the tour around the site.
