Beechwood Mansion is a prestigious history mansion previously owned by the Astor family since 1881. William Backhouse Astor, Jr., its first owner, renovated the property for $2 million and used it for hosting summer events, such as the Gilded Age festivals, in Newport. In the past, the family accepts visitors to be placed as ?staffs.? Most of work includes gardening, housekeeping, chef, butler, and many more. According to historical accounts, the Astor family members provide tours to guests as if they are part of the social circle, the ?400.?

When the Astor?s left, the place was managed by the Beechwood Theatre Company. The mansion became a living museum and began accepting guests for tours. Most of the actors of the theatre reenact Mrs. Astor?s family, friends, and the servants. Visitors can apply for a position as a domestic staff during off-seasons; the maids will take these ?staffs? and learn more about the extravagant lives of the Astor family, including ?Mrs. Astor.?

Arriving guests are treated as part of the ?400? and will have the opportunity to walk around the house and the grounds. Visiting tourists get to choose several tour options: Living History Tours, Murder Mystery Tours, Evening with the Astors, Chrismtas Tours, Christmas Feast and New Years Eve tours. The Cliff Walk Gate is another area of the mansion grounds where visitors can enjoy the panoramic view of the beach.

The mansion is also fitting for weddings and other functions. The gardens of the mansion may be used as a wedding area or a reception area, a charity event, kiddie parties, and more. Because of the wide area, many locals rent the mansion grounds for their special events.

As of date, the mansion was recently bought for $10.5 million by a billionaire, Larry Ellison. It is unknown if the Beechwood Mansion will resume its tour activities or will it be forever closed to the public.
