Brenton Point State Park is named after Governor William Brenton the owner of the large piece of farming land during the 17th century. Brenton named it Hammersmith, simply because it is his hometown in the United Kingdom. This name is also the name of one of the property of the First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis. A part of the area was donated by Budlong.

The manor house of Budlong caught a fire in 1960 and was destroyed partially. In 1963, the building was torn down. In current time, the park?s guest center with restrooms plus the park ranger?s office is located inside the Laundry and servants? quarters of the manor.

In 2007, a Japanese rock garden was created in the park. A tower made of stone is used by park rangers and tourists to take hold of the scenic view of the panorama.

The Brenton Point State Park is perfect for picnics, providing table throughout the area. The Brenton Point Kite Festival draws kite flyers from all over the country. Fishing is permitted, so bring your kite and bait!
