Constructed in 1854, the Ida Lewis Lighthouse is formerly known as the Lime Rock Lighthouse. You can find it in the Newport harbor in the state of Rhode Island. It got its name from one of the tower?s keepers, Ida Lewis, who maintained the place from 1879 until her demise in 1911 and was known for her bravery and heroic deeds of saving lives.

From the completion of the Ida Lewis Lighthouse, the Lewis family has always been its keepers. The first person to work the post was James Stockbridge Lewis. After six months, he was replaced by his father, James Lewis. Ida Zordia Lewis, his wife, replaced him, when he suffered a stroke. After a while, the namesake of the place, who was named after her mother, took over after the older Ida died.

The Ida Lewis Lighthouse was deactivated in 1963. It is now used as the clubhouse of the Ida Lewis Yacht Club.
