If you want to trace Malbone Castle and Estate?s history, you have to go back as far as the mid 1700s. The original structure was built in 1741 for the wealthy slave trader Colonel Godfrey Malbone, who was also one of the wealthiest men in the city during this time.

The Malbone Castle and Estate, with its age, has truly gone through a lot. For one, it has been rebuilt when the original house was burned down in 1766. The second house on the site was already owned by Jonathan Prescott Hall and his wife. The second home, that is also preset today, was built in 1848, using pink sandstone. It was designed to be the Halls? ?villa in the country? as they primarily resided in New York, where Jonathan Hall worked as a well known lawyer.

The Malbone Castle and Estate was owned for a period by the Preservation Society of Newport as a donation, but they later sold it to the Leach family who resides in the home today.
