Established by the Naval War College in 1952, the Naval War College Museum is one of the fifteen official museums managed and run by the US Navy. It is inside the National Historic District of the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.

The Naval War College Museum was built so something could fully manage the institution?s historical artifact collection. It was housed in the 1820 building of the old Newport Poor Asylum, now known as the Founders Hall.

Today, the Naval War College Museum displays exhibits related to the college, history of the naval actions in the area, and history of naval warfare in general. The site is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing site to the NHL District listing of the college.
