The Newport Casino, which first opened in 1880, is the home of the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum. During its time, it was meant to be a new clubhouse that will be able to serve private and public summer visitors.

Despite its name, it was never intended to be a gambling site. Its use of the "casino" word refers to an Italian word "cascina," which means "little summer house."

It took oly 6 months to construct the Newport Casino Complex. Its opening paved the way for a recreational venue allowing guests to enjoy activities like dancing, concerts, horse shows, billiards, archery, lawn bowling, tea parties, and theater productions. Much later on, lawn and court tennis, and croquet were also offered.

Currently, it retains its recognition of being a lively and wonderful recreational venue. It became a National Historic Landmark because of its significance in hosting the first ever US National Lawn Tennis Championships in 1881. This tournament is now more widely popular being known as the US Open.
