Many prominent Rhode Island personalities, artists and politicians are interred at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, Rhode Island. This 200-acre burial ground was established in 1846 and has been the resting place of many Rhode Islanders, with up to 40,000 interments.

The burial grounds are well-laid out, with lawns, drives, walkways, and gardens neatly designed. More like a public park than a cemetery, Swan Point features trees and shrubs such as azaleas and rhododendrons. There are banks and waterways, which provides a scenic vista of the surrounding river and countryside.

The first group to utilize this piece of land was the First Congregational Society, who moved several interments to Swan Point. From its original 60-acre area, the cemetery grew up to its present 200-acre size. Famous people buried here includes horror author H.P. Lovecraft and artist David Aldrich. The cemetery was declared a historic place in 1977.
