The Westminster Arcade, also known as the Weybosset Arcade of the Providence Arcade, is the very first enclosed shopping center in the US. Built in 1828 by James Bucklin and Russell Warren, the building has a Greek revival style. It has been declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976.
The Westminster arcade was first repaired and renovated prior to 1980, when it was reopened for business. From then, it has been the home to many weekday lunch restaurants and shops. However, it was closed down again in 2008 for major renovation that will be conducted by the Providence Preservation Society.
No details are available yet as to when the Westminster Arcade will open its doors to the public once again.
