When the Euhaw Baptist Church decided to ?branch? out in the late 1700s, they sent Rev. Henry Holcomb to Beaufort to start a new congregation. He managed to organize a sizable group, but it was Richard Fuller who really helped grow the congregation. Under his management, the Baptist Church of Beaufort was erected in 1844.

Fuller?s effort in making the church materialize is a notable feat. As most of the congregation was mostly composed by slaves, he raised funds in various other ways. He managed to get the amount necessary for the construction through gifts from his own fortune and through preaching engagements in other places.

Today, the Baptist Church of Beaufort is noted for being one of the best examples of Greek Revival architecture in the United States.
