With a state as old as South Carolina, it is just normal that it does get itself a couple of historic districts along the way. The Charleston Historic District can be said to be one of the most important locales in the area, being the most historically significant location in the state?s oldest city.

The Charleston Historic District is composed of 81 contributing properties along with more than 700 other properties that belong on the site. The area is mostly comprised of really old structures, dating back to the first days of the city.

Also known as Charleston Old and Historic District, the Charleston Historic District has been expanded at least five times in the past from the time that it was designated as a National Historic Landmark District in 1960.
