Built in 1812, the Georgetown Lighthouse is a pretty interesting lighthouse in the state of South Carolina. It is located at the entrance of Winyah Bay in the North Island, just southeast of the city of Georgetown. It is an active lighthouse today.

Before the current Georgetown Lighthouse, there was an older one that was built in 1801 and then destroyed in 1806. Since the area still needed a lighthouse, the current tower was built, but not after a couple of years later. It was constructed using brick, so it won’t easily break like the first one.

Despite the light being maintained by the US Coast Guard, the property is actually under the control of the state government as a part of the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center Heritage Preserve.
