The Laura M. Towne Archives and Library is the by appointment educational resource center of the Penn Center in St. Helena, South Carolina. It was named after the Penn School’s former teacher, Laura Matilda Towne, who spent forty years to the school and center.

The Laura M. Towne Archives and Library offers one of the oldest collections of the photographs of the African-Americans in the United States. People can also find the original copy of her diary here, as well as some books and audio recordings that date back to the founding of the Penn School.

As mentioned above, the Laura M. Towne Archives and Library is open by appointment, so if you want to access the documents on the site or just even look around, make sure to call in advance.
