It was constructed by the Beaverdam Baptist Association who planned of establishing a high school for rural kids in the county. Upon its completion, it became one of the six mountain mission schools in the South and one of four in the state.

With the help of the Saluda Baptist Association, the Beaverdam Baptist Association managed to establish the school in its early years. However, 1931, the South Carolina Baptist Convention decided to sell the property. The school Long Creek Academy was then reorganized as a private corporation. However, it was not until 1952 when the state stopped helping in the costs of the school.
