Measuring a total of 44 acres in land area, the Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site?s biggest highlight is the old home of South Carolina?s former governor, William H. Gist. He played a major role in the history of the state, with his decision to secede from the Union in order to protect slavery.

The Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site is now open to the public. It offers a wide array of different activities like picnicking and hiking the ? mile nature trail which is on the easy level. The Mansion can also be toured, but visitors may need to contact the authorities first to learn about its dates and schedules. Scenic strolls can also be enjoyed, especially on the rose gardens and around the other historic plantation buildings on the site.
