A governor?s mansion is an essential structure for every state. This is why it shouldn?t be too surprising that the state of South Carolina also has one in the historic neighbourhood of Arsenal Hill in Columbia, South Carolina.

The South Carolina Governor?s Mansion was built in 1855 as a part of a former academy complex. It is historic not only for being a governor?s mansion, but also for the fact that it is the only surviving building in its location, with most structures burned down by the Union Army under the leadership of William Tecumseh Sherman in 1865.

Today, the South Carolina Governor?s Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is treasured for being the home of many past state governors, as well as for its excellent architecture.
