The Tabby Manse is the former residence of Thomas Fuller, a notable Lowcountry planter. It is also known as the Thomas Fuller House and is noted for its crucial role in establishing a distinctive architecture in the city of Beaufort, South Carolina.
The thing with Tabby Manse is that it is a very fine example of architecture in the area. It boasts of perfectly proportioned rooms, some of which are even paneled using heart-pine and cypress. Its mantels of the Adam-style are also excellent, while its stairway is splendidly crafted. These are just some of its architectural merits, as there are quite a number, really.
Believed to have been built in 1786 for Thomas Fuller as a wedding present when he married Elizabeth Middleton, the property stayed in the family for a long time.
