The Village Museum is recognized as as one of South Carolina?s finest small town museums. Opened in April 1999, the Museum features exhibits that illustrate the history starting from the villages of the Seewee Indians and the settlement of French Huguenots at Jamestown, S.C., through rice planting on the Santee plantations and the establishment of the McClellanville town as a coastal resort. The exhibits, displays, and programs the Museum offers aim to provide educational and entertaining experiences to the public.

Visitors to the Museum will get to view the displays that will give them an idea on the simple lifestyle of the postwar farmer as well as the development of timber harvesting during the 20th Century and the progress of the seafood industry in the area.

The McClellanville is a small village established in the mid-1800?s. Surrounded by tall pines, live oaks, and palmettos, the village today has become a self-sufficient community having its own facilities including, schools, churches, homes, shops, and docking facilities that show the dominance of the seafood industry in the area.
