One of the famous recreation areas in Brandon, South Dakota, the Big Sioux Recreation Area lies on the area of the banks of the Big Sioux River in South Dakota. This recreation area is famous among many campers, canoers, archers and even history buffs. The big river runs through the heart of the recreation center, making it more ideal for outside camping, hiking, and picnicking.

Most of the campgrounds are filled with tourists and locals during the summer months, especially during weekends. Moreover during winter months the park is famous for its snow activities like skiing and snow mobile rides. There are also several hiking trails that will make anyone enjoy the recreation area more. There are also archery ranges that are set-up in the west side of the park.

In addition to all the fun in the park, many bird watchers will also enjoy the park area. Birding is abundant all year, in during May; the birding can be a great recreational activity since this is a peak time for bird migration.
