After two years of hard work, the Children?s Museum of South Dakota finally opened in 2010 and is the first of its kind in the state. There are numerous things for kids to enjoy and learn at the museum, which is divided into 6 zones: Our Prairie, Sensations, Imagine a House, Kid Street, Prairie Play, Splash, and Mine Explorers.

At Our Prairie, kids get to ?climb? clouds and play in a prairie-like setting as they learn more about the pioneer lifestyles of Lakota or Dakota people, the first settlement in the state. Interesting exhibits in this zone include the scientific and interactive Wild Winds Gallery, the role-playing Prairie Ways area, and the Market Fresh Grocery. At Imagine a House, kids get to learn the fundamental principles of construction in exhibits like Mozambique, Guatemala, and Beyond Imagine a House. At Kid Street, kids get a glimpse of the real-life world of adults. They learn how to tune-up cars in Under the Hood, fix some sandwiches at Caf? Oscar, and make their own newscast or play at Kids Live.
