The Codington County Heritage Museum is operated by a non-profit organization known as Codington County Historical Society. This organization is organized to preserve and showcase the history of Codington. The museum is housed in what was the former Carnegie Library Building in the uptown area of Watertown, South Dakota. The area of Watertown is the seat of Codington County; moreover it is the center of the historic Coteau des Prairie.

The museum showcases a large collection of artifacts, records and photographs that is all about Codington County. Additionally, visitors to the museum will be delighted to know that they have permanent as well as temporary exhibits on display. Included in the vast exhibits are replicas of a county school, military history in Codington, local railroad history, and many others. Moreover, the museum hosts a variety of traveling exhibits as well as heritage shows throughout the year.

Codington County Heritage Museum is open 10am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays and 1pm to 5pm, Saturdays during summer. It operates on shorter hours during winter at 1pm to 5pm Mondays to Fridays.
