Laura Ingalls Wilder is a famous author in the 1900s. She moved around a lot, going from one state to another but she and her sisters grew up in South Dakota. She only began writing her series of Little House books when she was already in her sixties. Her only daughter, Rose, encouraged Laura to write her series.

The Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home guided tour includes the tour of two original homes of the Ingalls. The first stop would be the Surveyors? House which Laura mentioned in one of her books. It continues to the replica of the Brewster school where Laura first started teaching and the First School of De Smet where the Ingalls sisters attended school. The tour also includes a stop to the Ingalls Home on Third Street which was the final home of Laura?s parents and her sister. It boasts history and a wide collection of original family memorabilia of the Ingalls.

There is also a Discover Laura Center. A one-room school house which is transformed into a hands-on site with activities in which children and the young at heart will surely enjoy. The tour is very knowledgeable and includes local history and the history of the Ingalls family.
