Situated at the heart of Capitol Avenue in Pierre, South Dakota is the state?s proud State Capitol. Boasting a Neoclassical architectural style, the Capitol has embodied the pride and achievements of South Dakota?s government for over 100 years. Completed in 1910, this historic landmark houses the offices of the Governor of South Dakota, as well as the state?s House of Representatives and Senate.

From the floor to the ceiling, the building had been meticulously designed. The floor of the building is made of terrazzo tiles. Legends have it that 66 Italian artists laid these tiles. The first floor contains the First Lady Gown Collection; the second floor has the marble staircase rotunda, which provides a scenic view of the magnificent designs of the inner dome; and the third floor formally houses the state?s House of Representatives and Senate.
