The South Dakota State Fair is considered as one of the biggest agricultural fairs in America. Here, visitors from all over can enjoy various featured items of livestock, horticulture, static, art, education and exhibits. During the fair, everything about the latest in farming and livestock technology are displayed, as well as other specialty items like food and wine are presented for tourists and locals to appreciate.

The first South Dakota State Fair was held in 1885 after the Territorial Legislature had the idea of having a yearly territorial fair. Since then, large towns in the state vied to be the host. Huron City was the first to win and became the first venue of the state fair. It was followed by other cities until Huron was finally chosen in 1905 to be the permanent venue of the state fair which is held every September.

Aside from agricultural exhibits, people who attend the South Dakota State Fair can enjoy eating and shopping from more than 400 vendors of food, services and other products. Children can enjoy the largest carnival in South Dakota while adults can participate in barrel races and barbecue cook-offs.
