As a way to celebrate its heritage, the city of Tabor in South Dakota holds a festival each year called Czech Days. The festival commemorates the settling in of Czechoslovakians in the area around 1869. During the celebration, you will hear polka music everywhere and find yourself drooling over the smell of baked kolaches, a type of Czech pastry that can be filled with anything from cherries, prunes, cottage cheese, to poppy seeds, sausage, and cabbage.

Czech Days is considered as one of the largest and oldest celebrations in the United States. It is held in the month of June and usually lasts for only two days. The festival is officially opened with a parade, followed by a series of performances by Beseda Dancers. Each evening, people can enjoy street dancing in the sound of Polka music. Although Czech Days was first celebrated in 1948 under its new name, it has been celebrated in the city for almost 85 years now.
