Although, there are now quite a few Body Farms in the country, the original location of this research facility is located at the University of Tennessee Anthropological Research Facility in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is placed right behind the university’s medical center.

The Body Farm is a research facility studying the human body’s decomposition process. It is a 2.5 acre plot that is commonly scattered with corpses put in a wide variety of settings, so researchers can study how they decompose.

The facility was opened in 1981, through Dr. William Bass, who was the Anthropology Department head back then. The site is also used for law enforcement training.

Although, the site is not open to the public, a lot of people still continue to be interested in these Body Farms.
