The Discovery Center serves as a venue for hands-on educational opportunities for its community. It was chartered as Children?s Museum Corporation of Rutherford County in 1986. It was able to acquire a building through the efforts of young parents within the area. Today, it houses features exhibits and programs that encourage development and learning among its visitors. On its first year, more than 11,000 people visited the exhibits and programs within the Museum. Today, it has become a significant tourism center in the community, being visited by more than 120,000 children and families who wanted to explore what it has to offer.

It features the Creation Station, where children enhance their creative skills through imagination and stimulating activities. The Discovery Depot lets them run trains, dress like engineers, and explore to widen knowledge. There is also the Farmers Market full of pastries, vegetables, and other food items; and the Fire Truck where they can pretend to be fire fighters while learning the fire fighting history of the city. Other activities and areas include the Shadow Room, Super Slide, Tennessee Live, and many more.
