Montgomery Bell Tunnel, a.k.a. Patterson Forge Tunnel is the first water diversion tunnel that was ever built in ?full scale? in the United States. It measures 290 feet long, and is through a limestone rock.

The name of the Montgomery Bell Tunnel is from its creator, Montgomery Bell. It was built in 1819 by the ?Iron Master of the Harpeth? and well known manufacturing entrepreneur of Tennessee with the help of slaves.

The Montgomery Bell Tunnel was listed in the National Historic Register in 1994 and was immediately designated as a National Historic Landmark at the same day and year of its listing in the registry. Today, folks can visit the site as a part of the Harpeth River State Park located in Kingston Springs, Tennessee.
