In 1990, Nashville Zoo opened its doors to the public as part of the 200-acre property that belonged to the Grassmere Wildlife Park. Seven years later, the park had closed down but the Nashville Zoo continued, with the help of Mayor Phil Bredesen.

There are various activities and attractions to enjoy in the Nashville Zoo and a wide range of events have been prepared by the management to provide additional daily entertainment for its visitors. Kids are sure to enjoy several animal shows taking place throughout the day. For adult visitors, the Grassmere Historic Home located within the property may be of interest.

Additional attractions for the kids include the Jungle Gym (66,000 square feet of space where children can enjoy unparalleled swinging fun), the scenic Wilderness Express Train, and the Wild Animal Carousel, in which kids may ride on cheetahs, giant anteaters, and giraffes.
