The Tennessee Aquarium had opened in 1992 and resides on the banks of Chattanooga?s Tennessee River. The aquarium is divided into two areas: Ocean Journey and River Journey.

Under the Ocean Journey category, there are exhibits such as the Undersea Caver, Boneless Beauties, Penguins? Rock, Butterfly Garden, and Shark Island. The Tropical Cove Exhibit is divided into two sections: the Macaw Glade and the Forest Pool.

Under the River Journey category, exhibits that can be found include a special Seahorses exhibition, Rivers of the World, Mississippi Delta, Tennessee River Gallery, and the Appalachian Cove Forest exhibit.

Besides the aforementioned exhibits, the Tennessee Aquarium also operates an IMAX Theatre and the River Gorge Explore at the Chattanooga Pier, a high-speed catarman (the only one in the Southeast US) that offers the best riverside adventures for naturalists.
