The Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area provides knowledge about life during the Civil War and the reconstruction period that followed it. As a remembrance of the turmoil during the 19th century, it features national battlefields, historic houses, cemeteries, museums, towns, churches, and other locations connected to the Civil War period. Its historic area includes the Jubilee Hall at Fisk University, the Andrew National Historic Site, and 4 historical battlefields. These are the Stones River National Battlefield, Shiloh National Military Park, Fort Donelson National Battlefield, and the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.

It also has its own organization. Aiming to empower individuals and communities to promote the historical importance of their stories and places, its organization helps them leverage local, private, federal, and state funding.
