Once dubbed as the “most important historical spot in Tennessee”, the William Blount Mansion is really a beautiful remembrance of the time passed. It gained its popularity for being the de factor capitol and residence of the only territorial governor of the Southwest Territory.

The William Blount Mansion was originally built in 1792. It housed William Blount, who was the territorial governor and a US Senator. It was mostly a wood frame house, clearly standing out from the others, as at the time, logs were commonly used for constructing residential homes.

The William Blount Mansion is now under the care of the Blount Mansion Association, operating as a house museum. It was declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1965.
