Focusing on the aviation history of Houston, the 1940 Air Terminal Museum is another one of a kind museum in Texas. It is located in the William P. Hobby Airport most of the collections are exhibited in the first ever passenger terminal of this airport. The museum is operated by the Houston Aeronautical Heritage Society that is founded in 1998 by a group of aviation, architects as well as history enthusiasts.

The terminal building was constructed in 1940, to serve local flights coming in and out of the municipal airport. Following the Art Decto style of the 1940?s, it underwent several renovations to reach its current state today. The terminal served as a commercial air terminal until 1954 and used by different tenants for other purposes until 1978. It was for a time proposed to be demolished by history enthusiasts stopped the plans.

Today, tourists and local can both enjoy the extensive exhibits about air travel. This includes exhibits about civil aviation, airplanes, airlines, artifacts and arts about aviation and its history.
