Affectionately called ?The Hangar? because of its traditional, Quonset hut-like looks and the name of its corporate sponsor, the brick-lined American Airlines Center is actually a state-of-the-art, hi-tech multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena. This arena is the home of several Dallas professional teams, namely: Dallas Mavericks of the NBA, Dallas Stars of the NHL, and Dallas Vigilantes of the AFL.

The arena opened on July 17, 2001. Two years prior, the American Airlines announced that it won the naming rights for the arena. The arena is popular for its distinctive ?old school? looks, thanks to the architect?s vision of making the arena a distinct city landmark. The arena can seat up to 19,200 basketball fans and up 21,000 concert goers. Aside from sporting events, the arena serves as venues for concerts, shows, productions, conventions, trade shows and other social events.
