Besides being listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Barr Mansion & Artisan Ballroom is also distinguishable from other premier and historic wedding venues by being the first establishment to gain USDA certification as an organic events facility.

Since its completion in 1898, the Barr Mansion had been considered one of the most socially important places in the city. In 1980, the mansion was purchased by Mark McAfee and his wife Melanie from the Barr family. After extensive restorations, the Barr Mansion began its exciting days as a wedding venue facility with the owner’s sister, Nancy, having her wedding at the site.

In June 2010, an unfortunate tragedy literally struck as lightning devastated the mansion’s Artisan Ballroom in a fiery accident. Restorations, however, are ongoing to make the ballroom fully operational as soon as possible.
