The Sarah Campbell Blaffer Gallery was named in the honor the late Sarah Blaffer. She was an important donor of the university as she donated a number of major artworks during her lifetime. Most of the artworks are antique dating back from the fifteenth century as well as some modern ones. These collections were purchased by the Blaffer Foundation, a foundation unrelated to the museum as well as the university. The income from the proceeds of the sales and the exhibits provides proceeds to the foundation as well as the museum. The Blaffer Gallery over the years has already presented more than 250 museum exhibits. Most of the exhibitions are focused on the art of the past 100 years.

The gallery also acquired 149 photographs that are taken by Andy Warhol. This was a gift from the Andy Warhol Foundation. Most of the photographs donated were featured in a number of exhibitions including the ?Celebutants, Groupies and Friends? at the gallery. On November 2, 2009, U.S First lady Michelle Obama awarded the gallery with the Coming Up Taller Award which was honored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
