The Central Texas Area Museum was established by a group of interested citizens of the Central Texas area. The Museum opened to the public on August 1, 1959. It occupies an old rock building that is over 100 years old and is located in one of Texas' most interesting small villages that tells an early frontier history.

The Museum, just a few hundred yards away from the Salado creek, was founded for the preservation of the historical items of the area?s early frontier days. Visitors who come here for the purpose of research can take advantage of the library inside. It offers books and papers connected to the settlement of Texas and the Central Texas area.

For those who would like to be engaged in artistic, cultural and historical activities, the Museum features its own programs including Genealogical Workshops, a fine arts exhibit, as well as a Readers and Writers Roundtable. The Museum also hosts a Gathering for the Scottish Clans of Texas, a 3-day affair of Scottish celebration inviting Scottish Clan Societies within the United States.
