Opened in 1931, the Highland Park Village is a shopping center that is also designed to function as a town square. It is the very first self-contained mall in the US and the second oldest shopping mall in the country as well. It still operates as a commercial district today, mostly for upscale clientele.

Aside from becoming a part of the National Register of Historic Places in the year 2000, the Highland Park Village also made headlines recently as it maintained its strong value despite the recession in the later parts of the new millennium?s first decade. It sold for $170 million in 2009.

Today, the Highland Park Village holds stores for high-end, luxury brands like Christian Louboutin, Tory Burch, Escada, Hermes, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Vince, and Diane Furstenberg just to name a few.
