The Houston Museum of Natural Science was founded by the Houston Museum and Scientific Society in 1909. It started out in the City Auditorium building. In 1929, it transferred to a building inside the Houston Zoo. Its present location at Hermann Park was built in 1969.

Ever since the museum was opened to the public, it has been active in providing a place for Houston residents to go to and learn about science. Here, visitors can learn while having fun through various science exhibits. They also have a Challenger Center dedicated to space mission and space flight, a planetarium, and an IMAX theater. Some of their featured traveling exhibits help boost this museum?s popularity to American families. At least 2 million visitors go to the Houston Museum annually and this massive number placed them second to the American Museum of Natural History in New York in terms of having the most visitors.
