In Julia Ideson Library lie the valuable archives of the Houston Public Library?s Houston Metropolitan Research Center. It?s a 21,500 square foot state-of-the-art, environmentally sensitive archival storage that?s put up by a non-profit organization in Houston. Found inside is an extensive collection of important records and files, such as the 4 million images of historic events and everyday life in Houston, thousands of volumes of rare books and rare pamphlets. This includes a 1615 edition of Don Quixote, a fifteenth-century illuminated Book of Hours from Flanders, and first editions of Moby Dick and Alice In Wonderland. The Julia Ideson Library also takes pride in its collection of rare maps of Houston dating from 1560.
