The Kimbell Art Museum got its name from Kay and Velma Kimbell, a well-to-do couple, who was the organizer of the Museum. They donated funds for a new building which was designed by the then famous architect Louis Kahn.

In 1931 they went to an art show and bought a painting by a British man. In 1935, they established Kimbell Art Foundation and set up an art institute. He died in 1964, with an art collection of the highest quality. They donated much of their property to the Museum because they have the vision ?to build a museum of the first class?.

The Kimbell Art Museum contains a small but exquisite collection of art works together with exhibitions on travel, educational seminars, and includes an extensive library.

In 1989 there are suggestions on adding two wings to the building but the critics did not approve of it. In 2006, suggestions reappeared, and this time a truce was reached, which is the erection of a separate structure. For architectural enthusiasts, this is the place to visit!
