Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1961, the King Ranch is south Texas is one of the largest ranches in the world. The ranch was founded in 1853 by Captain Richard King and Gideon K. Lewis. It is 825,000 acres large, encompassing 6 Texas counties including much of the Kleberg and Kennedy County.

King Ranch raises cattle, quarter horses, thoroughbreds, cutting horses and many other animals of great value. The thoroughbreds raised here were even crowned champions in large racing contests in the 50s. This large ranch mainly became part of history as well as pop culture. The ranch was so popular that in 2003, Ford Motor Company added to their F-series Super Duty Truck Line a King Ranch Series. Many American Literatures have been patterned after the ranch.
